Description
Immediately after the 21-gun salute I heard the sound of a noisy airplane taking off from the nearby airport. When I saw that it was a WWII era fighter plane I turned the recorder back on. The plane makes two passes over the parade route, and when it is directly overhead, the propeller noise is intense. Sorry I don't know my fighter planes well enough to tell you the exact model. There is also a bit of wind noise here and there. My next priority is to make some kind of wind zeppelin.
Update 3/25/2016: Very sad news - this pilot and his passenger were killed when his airplane (the one from the recording) crashed into the Columbia River: http://www.columbian.com/news/2016/mar/25/search-continues-for-missing-vancouver-plane/
Update 11/11/2015: Thanks everyone for the comments. The consensus seems to be that it is this aircraft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_T-6_Texan
I have some good news - I went to the same event this year and the plane made an appearance, after being absent for a few years. This year's recording seems even better than the one above. I'll get it posted up here soon.
