Waves on Beach
by kwahmah_02
Description
Close recording of waves washing up on the beach. This sound was recorded beside a groyne, which some of the waves were hitting instead of reaching the shore. The sand in the area was wet from the tide washing up on it for a prolonged period. There was a few pebbles there too- though not as many as in my previous recording- they're also less audible here.
Weather got the better of me- as you might be able to hear, there's a lot of wind in the background, but it doesn't ruin it as such: I use my iPod's fabric case to protect the mic from the wind noise- it actually works! At least it wasn't as windy as at the clifftop- 28th May was VERY windy- there was high winds on the Humber Bridge too (which I crossed THREE times after taking a wrong turn) - though I made it across unharmed, with some spectacular scenery. All in all I'm rather pleased with this recording- it's a favourite of mine. If one day I should decide I hate it for whatever reason, I'd make a note to myself- don't look back in anger, this is incredible considering your minimal equipment.
Which brings me to THE equipment. A 5th-generation iPod touch with its built in mic and a windshield made out of its fabric case- hence the minimal wind noise. All later editing was done in Audacity including amplifying, fade in/out and low pass. Recorded at Withernsea Beach, East Yorkshire on a fine early summer evening, 28th May 2015. There you go.
