Sound Licenses

All sounds on SoundSpool are sourced from Freesound.org and are available under Creative Commons licenses. Each sound page clearly displays its license type and any attribution requirements.

CC0 Creative Commons Zero (Public Domain)

Sounds under CC0 are dedicated to the public domain. You can use them for any purpose, including commercial projects, without attribution. This is the most permissive license available.

  • Use for any purpose (personal, commercial, broadcast)
  • No attribution required
  • No restrictions on modification or redistribution

CC BY Creative Commons Attribution

Sounds under CC BY require attribution to the original author. You must credit the creator when using these sounds in your projects.

  • Use for any purpose, including commercial projects
  • Attribution required: Credit the author (username) and link to the sound on Freesound
  • You may modify and remix the sound

Example attribution: "Sound by [username] from Freesound.org"

CC BY-NC Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial

Sounds under CC BY-NC require attribution and are restricted to non-commercial use only. You cannot use these sounds in projects that generate revenue.

  • Non-commercial use only: Cannot be used in commercial projects, ads, or monetized content
  • Attribution required: Credit the author (username) and link to the sound on Freesound
  • You may modify and remix the sound for non-commercial purposes

How to Check a Sound's License

Every sound page on SoundSpool displays the license type in the sidebar under "License." Look for the colored badge (CC0, CC BY, or CC BY-NC) to quickly identify the license type and any requirements before downloading.

Downloading Sounds

SoundSpool provides previews of sounds for discovery. To download the full-quality original files, you'll be directed to the sound's page on Freesound.org. A free Freesound account may be required for downloading.
